When I first met Geoff and Coulton, literally at the side of the road, they amazed me by their great approach to sales. It was one of building bridges and having great emotional intelligence. Don’t get me wrong they wanted to sell me something but it was an enjoyable experience!

Working with Simplified Marketing Solutions, Geoff and Coulton found a much needed lifeline in to their own businesses. Shawn Chheng their mentor and owner of Simplified takes us on a journey of self determination and hard work to achieve ambitions people only dream of. Even if you leave school with no qualifications!

What I love about presenting On Another Track is the variety of people I meet from around the world. Let me introduce Miguel, Linda and Mariana Jimenez from Columbia. They made the journey to Canada in 2019 with nothing but their clothes on their back, a suitcase with all their worldly possessions and most importantly their camera equipment.

 

They left behind a business, a home and their close family to start a new life. It wasn't a choice for them, it was necessity! They knew they had to make it work. Here is their story of hope, ambition and determination. As Miguel summed it up, all they were looking for was happiness. Do you think they achieved it? Listen to find out.

Do you ever get that feeling you are not worthy? The Butler of Downtown L.A. feeds our soul by discussing how vulnerability can make us incredibly strong. He also believes that we write our own script for life and that you can act yourself in to right thinking. His motto is: "just start doing it and the motivation will come".

 

With his two businesses on hold for the last year due to the pandemic, Hal has successfully pivoted by creating a Zoom experience which has helped to uplift people from the stresses of life. He leaves you with a feeling of pride and hope that when you are in action you can achieve anything!

 

We also review some great self help books that may just get you on the right path to contentment.

Called Mr Downtown by many of the 15,000 people he knows, Hal Bastian prefers to see himself as the Butler of Downtown. With an amazing memory for dates and events, Hal takes us on a journey of decay and eventual rebirth of downtown Los Angeles. All viewed through the eyes of his campaign to stop the normalising of people dying in the streets of L.A.

 

Whilst turning around the luck of L.A. as a commercial real estate agent, Hal managed to escape death eight times, survived a swath of series medical emergencies and achieved sobriety from alcohol and cocaine. No mean feat for a man who was smiling on the outside but dying on the inside!

Beverlie Dietze is the real "Mary Poppins". Starting out as a nanny she progressed to becoming the youngest faculty member in the Ontario college system at the age of 21.

Now as Director of Learning and Research in to Early Childhood education, she's just embarked on her next chapter of life by launching Play Outdoors Magazine.

Risk taking is in her New Brunswick DNA but she never forgets her Mother's mantra. Give back to society and help the less fortunate on your journey through life, wherever you can!

When you first meeting Remco Bergman you are driven nuts by trying to place his accent. You won’t get it, at least I didn’t. Being from The Hague in Holland but living in Canada for the last 20 years he has a straight forward approach to business. Almost verging on black and white with no grey!

However when you get to know him, he is the most pragmatic person you can meet. He truly believes that to make a business strong and healthy you have to distill the essence of the company and define its culture… and then stick with it!
